Earth Year Equivalent. This is the system of dates used in most documents. It is based on pretending that Risktkonian years are the exactly same length as Earth years, and extrapolating backwards and forwards from 1988.

jRobertson:
The earth year adjusted to Ristkonian standards, ie., pretending that there was a year 0 C.E., as in the three calendars to the right. This facilitates calculation but is not used for documents because it might be confusing.

On Stofonian Names:
All Stofonians have at least two names, a first name and a last name which function almost exactly as in english. They may also have one of more additional names after their surname. These are usually geographical terms, and usually indicate either an ancestral estate or a political or military jurisdiction awarded to themselves or some ancestor.

When it is neccessary to refer to someone by a single name only, one normally uses either the surname or the geographical name if the person has one. If he has more than one geographical name, use whichever one occurs last (which is usually the most important one).

The name of the first absolute ruler of Stofstans was originally "Ayst Inst". His name was expanded to "Ayst Inst an Stofstans", to indicate his power over that city. In English this is usually written "Stofstan I", with the "I" being added to distinguish him from his son and grandson who inherited the "an Stofstans" name.
[18]
jRobertson:
The origins of the word "Elikaln" are interesting in themselves.

"Elikaln" is an Old Stofonian corruption of the Elosian word "Elockan", which was the proper name for the Elosian Empire. As the Elockan was the first extensive empire with which the early Stofs had any contact, they took the word to mean something like "state that rules the entire world". There was only room for one such entity in the world, and when it could no longer be properly applied to the Elosians, the Stofs felt free to apply it to themselves.

"Elockan" in turn was obviously derived from the name of the city-state of Elos, but this derivation does not follow the normal rules of Elosian grammar. The explanation for this is that in the time of Binalon, the dialect of the city of Elos (which eventually became the standard Elosian language) was not widely known outside that city, so it could not be used to name the empire. A related but different Elosial dialect served as the lingua-franca of the day, and that is what was used. "Elockan" was subsequently borrowed into standard Elosian.
